Weerwolf Scott McCall heeft Beacon Hills achter zich gelaten en woont nu in Los Angeles. Daar leidt hij een normaal maar eenzaam leven. Wanneer in zijn oude woonplaats de volle maan weer opkomt, staat er tegelijkertijd ook een angstaanjagend kwaad op. Scott, niet langer een tiener maar wel nog steeds een Alpha, zal zowel nieuwe bondgenoten verzamelen als vertrouwde vrienden herenigen om terug te vechten tegen wat wel eens de machtigste en dodelijkste vijand zou kunnen zijn die ze ooit onder ogen hebben gehad.
