Leaphorn, een doorgewinterde politieagent uit Phoenix, is net begonnen bij de Navajo Tribal Police. Meteen op de eerste dag moet hij aan de slag: een moord. Naast het lijk treft men een oud Navajo-teken aan, geschreven met het bloed van de dode man. Het slachtoffer is een Navajo-medicijnman. Brigadier Chee, zelf een medicijnman in opleiding, herkent het symbool. Het wordt gebruikt in de Navajo-magie. Andere tekens wijzen erop dat de moordenaar zich voordoet als een Skinwalker, een boosaardig wezen dat van gedaante wisselt. Leaphorn is sceptisch, tot er een tweede lijk wordt gevonden. Nee, helaas is Skinwalkers nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
