John Henry Irons ontwerpt voor het leger gevaarlijke wapens. Wanneer hij op een dag een voorstelling geeft aan een vrouwelijke senator, draait dit uit op een fiasco. De politica komt om en zijn collega Susan Sparks raakt voor het leven verlamd. Hoewel hij onschuldig is, besluit John toch om ontslag te nemen en terug te keren naar zijn woonplaats in de Bronx. Maar daar komt hij tot de vaststelling dat de geheime wapens door iemand op de zwarte markt worden verkocht. Samen met zijn vriend 'oom Joe' doet hij er alles aan om de criminelen te stoppen.
