Een progressieve nieuwsjunkie en zijn vrouw, Chris en Kai genaamd, komen er achter dat burgers gevraagd worden een belofte- of eedsformulier te ondertekenen waarmee ze loyaliteit betuigen aan de president. Gezien hun idealistische gedachtegoed weigeren ze het formulier dan ook te ondertekenen. Met een 'Thanksgiving Day'-deadline die nadert, de aanwezigheid van sparrende familieleden en het onverwachte bezoek van twee overheidsagenten, lijkt de nationale feestdag volledig te ontsporen.
