George en Linda zijn een overwerkt, gestrest stel uit Manhattan. Als George na een reorganisatie zijn baan kwijtraakt, zit er voor hen niets anders op dan in te trekken bij de vreselijke broer van George, die in Atlanta woont. Op weg daarnaartoe komen George en Linda terecht in Elysium, een idyllische leefgemeenschap van kleurrijke personen die een heel andere kijk op allerlei zaken hebben.
