Na een ernstige zenuwinzinking keert Liz Michaels terug naar huis, naar haar zoon Anthony en haar man Gabe. Terwijl het nog steeds kwetsbare gezinsevenwicht geleidelijk wordt hersteld, verschijnt er een jong meisje genaamd Caitlin bij hen thuis. Ze beweert de dochter van Gabe te zijn, uit een relatie vóór zijn huwelijk met Liz. Caitlin bevindt zich in een zeer precaire situatie en de familie besluit haar onder hun dak te verwelkomen.
