Gouverneur James Reynolds Pryce (Tom Selleck) doet mee in de race om president van de Verenigde Staten te worden. Hij is echter niet de enige die zijn zinnen op het presidentschap heeft gezet. Hij krijgt concurrentie van twee machtsbeluste vrouwen namelijk Shawna (Teri Hatcher) en Meg (Faye Dunaway) .
