De TEXAS STATE ARMADILLOS zijn vierde van onderen in het football-klassement en lijken kansloos nadat zij door een corruptieschandaal bijna waren uitgerangeerd. Dan wordt de oprechte Ed Gennero aangesteld als coach, met de opdracht een compleet nieuw team te vormen. Voor de positie van quarterback verlaat Gennero zich op Paul Blake, een 34-jarige voormalige high school football-ster die na zijn eindexamen niet verder is gekomen dan de boerderij van zijn familie. Blake gooit nog steeds als de beste, maar is hij in staat te scoren in een team met een Samoerai-aanvaller, een stuntelige vanger en een Samoaanse leider die alleen oog heeft voor de place-kicker?
