Wanneer huisvrouw Frances Hannon wordt ontvoerd en levend begraven, wordt detective Madeline Foster binnengehaald. Met slechts 24 uur voordat Frances' zuurstof opraakt, vervolgt Madeline het spoor dat is gelegd door een moordenaar die zichzelf Harry Houdini noemt. Nadat ze hem gevangen heeft genomen, brengt Madeline Harry terug naar het politiebureau, maar ze kan hem niet laten bekennen waar Frances is begraven. Naarmate de tijd verstrijkt, kruipt Harry in het hoofd van de onstabiele, alcoholische Madeline.
