Na zijn vrijlating uit de gevangenis en met de dood bedreigd door meedogenloze vijanden, moet Nate nu koste wat kost zijn van hem vervreemde 11-jarige dochter Polly beschermen. Met weinig middelen en niemand die ze kunnen vertrouwen, smeden Nate en Polly een band die onder vuur wordt gesmeed, terwijl hij haar leert vechten en overleven – en zij hem leert wat onvoorwaardelijke liefde werkelijk betekent.
