Het verhaal vindt plaats in 1885 en begint met Art Croft en Gil Carter die de stad Bridger's Wells binnenrijden. Ze gaan Darby's Saloon binnen waar een ingetogen sfeer hangt, veroorzaakt door recent gevallen van "cattle-rustling" (het stelen van vee) in de omgeving. Iedereen wil de dieven vangen...
