Het is twintig jaar geleden sinds Don Diego De La Vega zijn laatste heldendaad als Zorro heeft verricht. Maar de onderdrukking duurt voort en hij zal een opvolger moeten vinden die wil vechten voor het Mexicaanse volk. Hij neemt Alejandro Murietta onder zijn hoede, een struikrover met een 'vaag' verleden. Samen met Murietta wordt Zorro de grootste held die De La Vega eens was. Samen strijden ze voor de vrijheid van het volk en de waarheid omtrent de afkomst van de mooie Elena...
