Filmmaker Jason Kohn onderzoekt in Amerika, Botswana, China en India de diepgewortelde mythe dat diamanten, het ultieme symbool van liefde, echt voor altijd zijn. Hij ontmoet tijdens zijn reis een edelsteenkundige die de wereld ervoor probeert te waarschuwen dat artificiële diamanten gemengd worden met echte. Maar de industrie die hij probeert te redden, wil maar niet luisteren. Mijnwerkers, mengers, tussenpersonen... het zijn allemaal mensen die aan bod komen in dit verhaal over wat echt is en wat nep, en die aantonen wat het prijskaartje is om de waarheid bloot te leggen in een industrie die gestoeld is op geheimhouding.
