Dead or Alive is een jaarlijks martial arts toernooi waar alleen de beste vechters van de wereld welkom zijn. De Japanse prinses Kasumi wordt dit jaar uitgenodigd. Dit geeft haar een perspectief om de schijnbare dood van haar broer te onderzoeken, die bij het vorige toernooi verdwenen is. Andere genodigden zijn o.a. Tina, een worstelaarster die wil bewijzen dat ze meer kan dan dat, Christie, een inbreekster, en Helena, de dochter van de vorig jaar overleden DOA-baas. Zij zullen samen met de wereldtop van alle vechtklasses strijden om de titel en het prijzengeld. Gebaseerd op het gelijknamige spel.
