De Sierra Nevada in de late negentiende eeuw. Isaac Lemay is een moordlustige crimineel die door een profetie achtervolgd wordt. Om zijn eigen moord te voorkomen wordt hij gedwongen zijn nageslacht te doden. Momenteel heeft hij zijn zoon Cal in het vizier. Terwijl premiejagers en de sheriff Solomon hem op de hielen zitten, ontvouwt zich een bruut kat-en-muisspel.
