Jake Speed (Wayne Crawford) is de hoofdpersoon in enkele van de grootste pageturners van de jaren veertig. Speed, een gebeiteld, heroïsch actiefiguur, redt levens op papier, maar wanneer een jong meisje wordt ontvoerd en haar zus (Karen Kopins) de echte Speed om hulp smeekt, moet hij een manier vinden om net zo dapper te zijn als de boekheld wiens creatie waar hij door geïnspireerd is. Vergezeld door de broer of zus van het slachtoffer vliegt Speed naar Afrika om te zien of hij de taak aankan.
