Joan is een succesvol schrijfster van sentimentele kiosk-romannetjes. Op een dag krijgt ze een kaart toegestuurd, waarop de vindplaats van een grote schat is aangeduid. Kort nadien wordt haar flat ondersteboven gehaald. Dan krijgt ze plots een telefoontje van haar zus Eliane uit het Zuid-Amerikaanse Colombia: Eliane blijkt te zijn ontvoerd en de kidnappers eisen de landkaart als losgeld.
