Er vindt een reeks van bizarre moorden plaats in San Francisco. In een acupunctuurkliniek overlijdt iemand op mysterieuze wijze en een musicus wordt doodsbenauwd voor zijn eigen gitaar. De politiechef vraagt; de inmiddels gepensioneerde; Charlie Chan de moorden te onderzoeken. Chan stuit op een groot aantal verdachten. Aan hem de taak om de enige echte dader op te sporen.
