Tess, een kruiswoordredacteur voor een krant, ontmoet Lyle, een vriend van de universiteit, en ontdekt dat hij verliefd is geworden. Eén ding dat hij en zijn vriendin Abby gemeen hebben, is hun liefde voor kruiswoordpuzzels en hij vraagt Tess om zijn huwelijksaanzoek te verbergen in een aankomende puzzel. Helaas valt zijn romantische gebaar in duigen. Wanneer Tess aankomt voor de brunch, vindt ze Lyle neergestoken op de vloer van zijn appartement. Rechercheur Logan krijgt de zaak en hij is verbaasd dat er een verband is met Tess. Kan ze Logan helpen uit te zoeken wat er met haar vriend is gebeurd?
