Skateland, de lokale schaatsbaan in een klein stadje in Texas, sluit in 1983 waardoor Ritchie, de 19-jarige uitbater, genoodzaakt is een andere job te zoeken. Zijn ouders gaan scheiden en vrijwel elke andere relatie in z’n leven is een puinhoop. Ritchie moet voor het eerst in zijn leven keuzes maken en eindelijk volwassen worden.
