De zestienjarige Mickey woont samen met zijn moeder Eva en zijn broertje Kolya. Zijn vader Roman is de nieuwste uit een reeks voorgangers die zijn kinderen in de steek laat, of het nu is om op zoek te gaan naar werk of om verantwoordelijkheden te vermijden. De vertrokken vaders keren nooit meer terug, een trend die door de jonge generatie 'naar de maan vertrekken' wordt genoemd.
