Noord-Australië, de jaren 30. Terwijl een oorlog gaande is koestert de premiejager Travis een laatste hoop op verlossing. Hij kruist het pad van een jonge Aboriginal die alles op het spel zet om de weinige familieleden die hem rest te redden.
