Na een hartaanval trekt de wereldberoemde dirigent Daniel Daréus naar zijn Noord-Zweedse geboortedorp om te herstellen. Als hij in aanraking komt met het plaatselijke koor voelt hij zich geroepen die onder zijn hoede te nemen. Zijn leven en dat van de andere dorpsbewoners zullen nooit meer hetzelfde zijn.
