Een groep astronauten vertrekt voor een eerste missie naar Mars met de bedoeling de planeet te koloniseren. Na de lancering ontdekt een van hen dat ze zwanger is. Kort nadat de shuttle op Mars landt, bevalt ze van een zoon en sterft.
