Ohio, 1956. Jonathan is een verlegen, teruggetrokken tiener. Hij slaat de ene flater na de andere wanneer hij het meisje van zijn dromen, Marilyn wil aanspreken. Zijn toekomst ziet er plots heel wat rooskleuriger uit als hij de rebelse Gene leert kennen. Gene weet onmiddellijk alle meisjesharten te veroveren, en belooft Jonathan aan een vriendinnetje te helpen.
