Ben Sadler wordt als sheriff aangesteld in een stad in Texas. Wanneer de jonge Mexicaanse arbeider Martin Garralaga wordt vermoord, wil Virgil Renchler, een grootgrondbezitter en eigenaar van de ‘Golden Empire Ranch’, dat Sadler niets onderneemt. Sadler negeert echter Renchlers wens en hij gaat de moordzaak toch onderzoeken. Sadler komt er achter dat Martin verliefd was op Renchlers dochter Skippy.
