De extravagante transseksueel 'Busty Rusty' en de gepensioneerde politieagent Walt Koontz wonen in hetzelfde appartementsgebouw in New York pal tegenover elkaar. De ultramannelijke oud-agent ergert zich dood aan die vent in zijn jurk met zijn zingende vriendenclubje, dat bestaat uit al even extraverte verkleednichten. Door een beroerte getroffen, raad een arts Koontz aan om zanglessen te nemen, zodat zijn spraakvermogen weer hersteld wordt. De enige zangleraar die dichtbij woont, is de door hem zo gehate zingende buurman.
