Op 20 april 1945 begint de Sovjet-Unie een aanval op Berlijn. Het betekent het einde van het nazi-rijk en Hitler pleegt zelfmoord. In Praag discussieert de staatssecretaris voor het Protectoraat Bohemen en Moravië K.H. Frank met zijn commandanten hoe ze Praag tot een onneembaar fort kunnen omvormen. De bewoners van Praag besluiten hier niet op te wachten. Op 4 mei verwijderen ze nazisymbolen en op 5 mei begint de opstand.
