Milly en Jesse zijn altijd de beste vriendinnen geweest. Sinds hun jeugd hebben ze alles gedeeld: geheimen, kleding, humor en vriendjes. Nu proberen ze volwassen te worden. Milly heeft een goede baan en woont in een prachtig herenhuis met haar man Kit en hun twee kinderen. Jess is een stedenbouwkundige en zij en haar vriend wonen op een woonboot in een Londense gracht. Hun vriendschap komt echter op het spel te staan wanneer Jess heel graag een kindje wil en Milly ontdekt dat ze borstkanker heeft.
