Een Amerikaanse buitenlandse uitwisselingsstudent in Ierland, Rich Evans (Kurt Russell), raakt verstrikt in spionage wanneer een stervende man hem een bericht geeft om door te geven aan zijn oudere broer, een Amerikaanse inlichtingenagent zonder dat Rich het weet. Rich en zijn vriend worden vervolgens ontvoerd door een Oostblok-agent die zich voordoet als lid van de Amerikaanse ambassade, in de hoop dat ze hem naar een wetenschapper zullen leiden die probeert over te lopen naar het Westen. Oorspronkelijk uitgezonden in drie delen in de tv-serie 'Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color', en vervolgens opnieuw gemonteerd tot een speelfilm in Europa onder de titel 'The Secret of Boyne Castle'.
