Het jonge, naïeve en dappere rendier Niko gaat op zoek naar zijn biologische vader, die deel zou uitmaken van de mythische Vliegende Brigade. Ondanks hoogtevrees en duizeligheid trekt Niko er toch op uit om vlieglessen te, krijgen van Julius, een oudere vliegende eekhoorn. Tijdens de gevaarlijke zoektocht naar zijn vader, wordt Niko ook bijgestaan door Wilma, een assertieve zingende nerts. Ze worden echter tegengewerkt door wolven…
