Kort voor zijn pensionering wil agent Burt Simpson niet te veel risico's meer nemen, totdat hij hoort dat hij een ongeneeslijke ziekte heeft en nog maar een paar dagen te leven heeft. Burts gezin krijgt alleen maar geld van de verzekering uitbetaald als hij in dienstverband om het leven komt, en dus wil hij nu in het harnas sterven en gaat hij met ware doodsverachting achter de criminelen aan.
