In het ziekenhuis ontwaakt fotograaf Jinx Kingsley uit een coma na een auto-ongeluk - een mislukte zelfmoordpoging, nadat haar verloofde Leo haar ertoe aanzette om weg te lopen met Jinx's levenslange beste vriendin, Meg. De ontdekking van de lichamen van Leo en Meg, op brute wijze vermoord op dezelfde manier als de eerste echtgenoot van Jinx, maakt Jinx tot de hoofdverdachte. Dan beginnen, met de hulp van de eminente neurowetenschapper Dr. Alan Protheroe, enkele herinneringen naar boven te komen. Herinneringen aan wanhoop en verlammende terreur.
