De licht ontvlambare plattelandsjongen Bud Davis reist naar de stad Pasadena om er zijn oom te bezoeken. Hij bezoekt er regelmatig de bar Gilley's en ontmoet er de jonge cowgirl Sissy. De tortelduifjes trouwen snel en vanaf dan gaan ze elk weekend samen naar Gilley's, waar Bud de show steelt op de mechanische stier. Aan het sprookje komt al snel een einde wanneer zware jongen Wes ten tonele verschijnt. Hij temt de mechanische stier met verbluffend gemak, en laat bovendien zijn oog vallen op Sissy.
Nee, helaas is Urban Cowboy nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
