Zara is een advocate die wordt achtervolgd door kerstherinneringen. Ze woont een Victoriaans diner bij waar ze Rafe ontmoet, een renovateur. Zijn spookachtige voorvader speelt koppelaar door Zara een boek met liefdesverhalen te geven, waarmee hij haar scepsis over romantiek op de proef stelt.
