In 1890 trekt de ongure Strindler de aandacht in een grensstadje als hij flink wil betalen voor aanvullingen op zijn namenlijst. Strindler struint welgemoed de saloons en boerderijen af om mensen tegen betaling aan het praten te krijgen – maar schiet daar soms in door. Te midden van de dorpsdronkaard, opvliegende veehoeders en plaatselijke bandieten raakt Strindler al snel verstrikt in zijn eigen sterke verhalen.
