Chantel Mitchell is een zeventienjarige tiener die opgroeit in een wijk in New York waar straatbendes de dienst uitmaken. Chantel kan zich aardig handhaven in het ruige Brooklyn, maar ze zou het liefst in een nettere buurt wonen. Naast school vermaakt Chantel zich met haar bijbaantje en haar vriendje, maar wanneer ze Tyrone ontmoet die haar weet te imponeren met zijn mooie jeep en nette praatjes, verandert er het een en ander in het rustige leventje van de tiener.
