Dr. Benjamin Stone is een jonge dokter die op weg is naar L.A. om plastisch chirurg te worden in Beverly Hills. Om uit de file te blijven verlaat hij de snelweg, maar hij raakt de weg kwijt en ramt met zijn auto tegen een hek in het dorpje Grady. Hij krijgt een taakstraf in het lokale ziekenhuis, en hij wil zo snel mogelijk uit het dorp, weg van de hillbillies. Maar de inwoners mogen hem graag, en willen dat hij hun huisarts wordt. En hijzelf wordt verliefd op de mooie Lou.
