'Hit So Hard' volgt het leven van Patty Schemel, de openlijk homoseksuele drummer van Courtney Loves veelbelovende rockband Hole. Als klein meisje wist Patty altijd al dat ze anders was dan de andere kinderen in het plattelandsstadje buiten Seattle waar ze opgroeide. Ze had echter nooit durven dromen dat op een dag haar foto op de cover van een Rolling Stone zou staan. Daarentegen heeft ze er ook nooit bij stil gestaan dat ze alles zomaar weer kan verliezen. Patty is een echte overlever van de 'slacker' generatie, maar werd net als haar vriend Kurt Cobain geplaagd door een duistere kant.
