De getalenteerde concertvioliste Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba) is blind sinds haar kleutertijd, maar nu is ze klaar om opnieuw te zien door de hoornvliezen van een donor. Dokter Paul Faulkner helpt haar hoe ze met haar nieuwe ogen moet omgaan. Maar Sydney ziet niet alleen wazig en troebel, ze ziet ook dingen die ze niet zou moeten zien. Is het haar fantasie of is er echt iets gruwelijk mis? Paul en haar zus Helen (Parker Posey) geloven niets van Sydney's verhalen over donkere schimmen die mensen meenemen vlak na hun dood. Ten einde raad besluit Sydney zelf te achterhalen wie de donor was om de waarheid achter haar nieuwe ogen vinden.
