Tommy, de jongere broer van de voormalig bokser Joe Kelly, besluit ook bokser te worden en hij verlaat zijn geboortestad Maine om zijn geluk uit te proberen in New York. Alles gaat goed, totdat hij in contact komt met criminele gokkers, die de uitslag van de bokswedstrijden willen bepalen. Joe, die er een paar jaar tussenuit is geweest vanwege teleurstellingen in de bokssport hoort over Tommy's dilemma en adviseert hem te stoppen. Tommy doet dat ook, waarop de gangsters zich willen wreken op de broers. Een sportjournalist krijgt dit in de gaten en waarschuwt de politie.
