Als Sam naar huis terugkeert om voor zijn zieke vader te zorgen, raakt hij verliefd op de eigenaresse van een lokale boekwinkel, Kate. Tegelijkertijd begint Bill warme gevoelens te krijgen voor Kate's moeder, Tina. Om de liefde te laten slagen zullen ze echter alle vier de confrontatie aan moeten gaan met hun verleden.
