De Amerikaanse legerofficier Dave Dillon belandt met zijn jeep zonder brandstof bij een groot huis. Hij vraagt aan de bewoonster of hij mag telefoneren en ontdekt dat haar man Tom Wilson een agressieve alcoholicus is. Dillon raakt bevriend met de vrouw en wordt als snel verliefd op haar. Ze besluiten zich samen van haar echtgenoot te ontdoen, maar hoe plan je een perfecte moord?
