De sheriff van een klein stadje, Bill Halsey, ziet tot zijn verbazing - na langdurige afwezigheid - zijn broer Jack terug. Deze trekt bij hem en zijn vrouw en twee kinderen in. Jack is een inbreker, maar Bill probeert hem vanaf nu in het gareel te houden. Maar Jack kan zich slecht inhouden en deinst ook voor moord niet terug.
