Het is het jaar 50 voor Christus. De keizerin van China is na een staatsgreep door de verraderlijke prins Deng Tsin Qin gevangengenomen. Met de hulp van de Fenicische koopman Greintjemis en haar trouwe lijfwacht Tat Han vlucht de enige dochter van de keizerin, prinses Fu Yi, naar Gallië. Daar zoekt ze de dappere krijgers Asterix en Obelix, die dankzij hun toverdrank over bovenmenselijke krachten beschikken. De twee onafscheidelijke helden schieten de prinses maar wat graag te hulp om haar moeder te redden en haar land te bevrijden. En zo begint hun grote avontuur op weg naar China. Maar Julius Caesar en zijn machtige leger zijn ook onderweg naar het Middenrijk, hongerig naar een nieuwe overwinning...
Nee, helaas is Asterix & Obelix in het Middenrijk nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
