Na de dood van een koordirigent in het kleine stadje Pacashau in Georgia, neemt Vi Rose Hill (Queen Latifah), moeder van twee tieners, de leiding over het koor. De weduwe van de dirigent, G.G. Sparrow (Dolly Parton), is echter van mening dat zij die positie had moeten krijgen. Door financiële problemen dreigt het koor te moeten stoppen. Uiteindelijk lossen de twee vrouwen hun meningsverschillen op en gaan ze zich inzetten om de concurrentie in de jaarlijkse "Joyful Noise" competitie te verslaan.
Nee, helaas is Joyful Noise nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
