Een verlegen, staartloos katje genaamd Pelle vindt een nieuw thuis bij het meisje Birgitta, maar dan blaast een plotselinge storm hem richting de grote stad, waar hij allerlei avonturen beleeft met aardige, maar ook minder aardige mededieren. Uiteindelijk leert Pelle zijn nieuwe vrienden dat het veel moediger is om aardig te zijn dan gemeen te blijven doen.
