De wetenschapper Augustine bevindt zich alleen op de Noordpool. Hij poogt in contact te komen met een ruimteschip dat terug op weg is naar de aarde. De bemanningsleden, waaronder de jonge Sully, zijn namelijk op weg naar een planeet die de gevolgen draagt van een globale ramp.
