De film laat het waargebeurde verhaal zien van Edward Gein, de boer wiens gruwelijke misdaden model stonden voor films als Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre en The Silence Of The Lambs. We zien Gein's jeugd, zijn dominante moeder, en zijn arrestatie in 1957 waarbij één van de meeste bizarre serie moorden ooit in Amerika aan het daglicht kwam.
