Antônio woont in het afgelopen plaatsje Nordestina. Als jongeman wordt Antônio verliefd op Karina, een zeventienjarige tiener die er van droomt de wijde wereld in te trekken en actrice te worden. Antônio belooft haar alles te geven wat zij maar wenst. Hij gaat naar Rio de Janeiro en doet daar mee aan een sensatiebeluste tv-show waar hij belooft vijftig jaar in de tijd vooruit te reizen of te sterven voor de liefde.
